Gripes.
Everytime I happen to want to take a cab but am left with a $50 note, I'll warn the driver and ask him if he has enough change. 75% of the time the driver will NOT have enough change and will make it known that he has been extremely inconvenienced. Some even lecture me on how they have just started their shift so where are they gonna find the small change, and next time I should make sure I have enough $2, $5 or $10 notes when I take cabs.
To ensure that I make a safe trip to my destination, I would usually keep my mouth shut at that comment. But since when did it become the driver's prerogative to demand that passengers have enough small change so as not to inconvenience him? Isn't it the driver's responsibility to make sure that he has enough change to tide him over the day?
It's one thing to be apologetic, another to be rude. One day, when I'm tired of living, I'd dump my piggybank on the driver's lap and say "Nah, here's my fare, count out the small change and return the rest to me."
